What is Heart Disease

Heart disease refers to many types of heart problems. These problems can affect the way your heart beats and how blood moves into and out of your heart.

Examples of heart disease include:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Heart attack
  • Angina
  • Heart failure
  • Valve disease
  • Arrhythmias (heart rhythm problems)
  • Aortic aneurysm (a bulge in your body’s main artery)
  • Cardiomyopathies (diseases that make it hard for the heart to pump blood)

Heart disease can be present at birth (called congenital heart disease) or it may develop after birth.
